Fishing on Watauga Lake

If you are planning on fishing during your visit to Watauga Lake, please plan on spending up to an additional ten minutes per person buying fishing licenses. This may delay your departure time significantly. If you are in a hurry to get on the lake, consider buying your fishing licenses in advance online at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency web site. You may need to wait several days for the license to come in the mail, so this option may require advance planning. License requirements for Tennessee residents are a Tennessee driver’s license for an adult, or other state issued ID. To buy a youth residents license, you must be accompanied by an adult and have proof of your social security number. For non-residents, please bring a photo ID and know your social security number. No one under the age of 13 needs a license to fish in Tennessee.
