Off The Grid AdventuresStand Up Paddleboarding, Canoe and Kayak Rentals
Fish Springs Marina is now the home of Off The Grid Adventures, offering Stand Up Paddleboarding as well as canoe and kayak rentals right on beatiful Watauga Lake.
What is Stand-Up Paddleboarding?
Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is part of a new outdoor business located on Watauga Lake in Hampton, Tennessee. The sport itself is an ancient form of surfing on calm water.
SUP had its beginnings in the Hawaiian Islands. In the early 1960's the beach boys of Waikiki would stand on their long boards and paddle with outrigger paddles to take pictures of the tourists learning to surf. The sport benefits all levels of athletes though a strong core workout.
Unlike surfing, paddleboarding is easy to learn and you can be comfortable on the board and in the water in about 30 minutes. SUP targets both beginners and experienced boarders. The beginner segment is made up of those who have never tried paddleboarding but are eager to try it. Experienced boarders are looking for a recreational activity they can participate in and provide them hours of enjoyment while maintaining their fitness level.
